Diet Care - Tips for the monsoon

Posted by Labels: at

Although the monsoon brings welcome rains and relief from the summer heat, the thunderstorms that come with the monsoon bring their own hazards. So before the season gets underway, it is a good idea to care for your Diet.

Monsoons reduce the immunity of our body and make us susceptible to many diseases. Therefore, it is extremely essential to take care over the food we eat.

Here are some tips to take care of your diet during this season.

Wash vegetables thoroughly before cooking them, especially leafy vegetables like coriander, methi, mint, cauliflower which may contain larvae and worms.

Wash fruits before cutting. Go for seasonal fruits, as they are less likely to be infested compared to other fruits. You can also choose from a variety of exotic fruits like peaches, litchis, cherries and jamuns.

Chicken, fish and eggs should be cooked to a well-done stage.

Drink as much water as you can at regular intervals rather than waiting till you become thirsty.

              Use pasteurized and boiled milk.

Maintain general hygiene while eating out and definitely avoid roadside vendors as very few people have good immunity to handle the bacterial overload at such places

Hair Care - Tips for the monsoon

Posted by Labels: at

Although the monsoon brings welcome rains and relief from the summer heat, the thunderstorms that come with the monsoon bring their own hazards. So before the season gets underway, it is a good idea to care for your hair.

Monsoons are not really a friend for your hair. The monsoon brings with it a host of hair care problems like limpness, greasiness and hair fall.

The heightened moisture in the air makes the texture of hair dull, flat and tangled. As a result your tresses can look limp and unattractive.

Some tips to protect your hair during the monsoon are:

Use a mild shampoo and wash your hair regularly

If you need to blow dry your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner prior to drying your hair

Avoid application of styling products, as this could make your hair very greasy due to increased humidity

              Do not tie-up wet hair

Some people are plagued by bad scalp odour due to sweat and oily secretions. For this, add the juice of a lemon and half a cup of rose water to a mug of water and use as a last rinse.

Hair care becomes a difficult and time-consuming job in the monsoon season. But it is also important for healthy hair to stay away from chemicals and outside treatments as much as possible.

Skin - Tips for the monsoon

Although the monsoon brings welcome rains and relief from the summer heat, the thunderstorms that come with the monsoon bring their own hazards. So before the season gets underway, it is a good idea to care for your skin.

Monsoon is the time where your skin behaves a little strangely and is often un-stable.

It suddenly gets oily or becomes dry and dehydrated.

Here are some tips to take care of your skin during this season.

Cleanse your skin daily using a soap-free cleanser.

Also make use of a gentle scrub once a day to get rid of dead cells.

Use a sunscreen even on a cloudy day since the harmful UV radiations are capable of penetrating the clouds.

Use a light lotion-based moisturizer. This will gently re-hydrate your skin and also brighten it up.

Avoid heavy make-up and use water-proof make-up when necessary.

Glowing skin is not only a result of external skincare. You must remember to eat healthy vegetables and antioxidant rich fruits to keep your complexion glowing. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout this season.

Do You Know Why Some Websites Have "www" in Their Address While Some Don't?

If you frequently surf the Internet, you may have realized by now that certain URLs have the "www" prefix in front of them, while certain others don't. For example http://www.google.com has it, while http://douknowthe.blogspot.com doesn't. Why is this so, you may ask?

The reason for this happening is due to the usual practice of naming the Internet hosts according to the services they provide. For example:

  • The host name of a Web server usually has the "www" prefix.
  • The host name of an FTP server usually has the "ftp" prefix.
  • The host name of a News server usually has the "nntp" or "news" prefix.

The use of the prefixes is in fact NOT required. That is why we can see many website today not having the "www" prefix in their URLs. The "www" is simply a choice in name, nothing more.

You can find out more from these articles:

  • Wikipedia - World Wide Web
  • Ask Leo! - Why do some website addresses have "www", and some don't? And why do some work with or without the "www"?
  • HowStuffWorks - Why do some Web sites include www in the URL while others don't?

Do You Know What is a Googol?

Nope, I did not misspell THE search engine.

A
googol is a very huge number. It is actually 10100 (which is 1 followed by 100 zeroes).

The term was popularized by Edward Kasner. On a walk with his nephews, Milton and Edwin Sirotta, Kasner asked for their ideas for a name for a very large number. Nine-year-old Milton suggested "googol."

Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of Google, named their search engine after the term googol.

There is also
googolplex - an even bigger number. A googolplex is equals to 10googol (which is 1 followed by a googol zeroes).

Incidentally, the company headquarters for Google is known as the Googleplex (most likely a combination of Google and complex).

The Convention set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and in its industrial, commercial and societal application. The original aim of the Metre Convention – the worldwide uniformity of measurement – remains as important today as it was in 1875.

The World Metrology Day project is currently realized jointly by the BIPM and the OIML together with PTB International Technical Cooperation.
